Final Block- Wave

Weave Block
Looms
Monday 23rd January
I have been looking forward to the weave block since the Christmas holiday, I'm not sure why though because I realised once I was in it that I didn't actually know anything about weave. But it's just as exciting as I expected it to be, on the first day we had to pair up with someone to use a loom and help & teach each other to get the hang of things. I worked with the lovely Olivia, we were both as excited as each other about using the looms so we had an equal amount of time to use it. Lorna gave us a sheet of patterns that we could try out on the looms. First we tried a plain weave, then a twill, then Lorna suggested we could use the twill pattern and rather than starting from the beginning after completing the pattern, we could go back on ourselves to see what happens - this created a triangular shape (Wooo!) after we had tried out most of the patterns we started with our 8 weaves for the weave block to reflect upon our Pop-up collection. As you know by now, mine is worldly instruments. so again, i was trying to create an ethnic effect using my colour pallet. We had a weave designer called Helen come in twice in the two weeks to tutorial us and give us ideas that we could carry out in our weaves. She also set us an off loom project where we had to produce x10 samples- these could be wrappings or hand woven pieces, I decided to do some more wrappings as I love these.

The first sample that me & Olivia made testing out all the patterns.
