This weeks lecture was about tartan and its place in textiles lectured by the above, who researcher in this area. He discussed & questioned the history and heritage of tartan (the Falkirk tartan -oldest known tartan?), its traditional stereotypes and narratives & its development in the post-modern world. We were shown a clip from 'Casino Royale, killer in the kilt', we discussed Galliano/ vivienne Westwood use of tartan in fashion (and the points bellow with reference to postmodernism)
  • Tradition (mainly 19th century fabrication)/Royal family/Queen Victoria 
  • Tartan romance/Scotland/Clans
  • Post-modernism started as architectural terms
  • National Tartan day celebrating Scottish heritage 
  • Sikh community have a Tartan
  • Designers: Louise Gray 2011 AW/ Dior SS 1997/ 1970 Bill Gibbs wool suit/ Greg Homme (thong) 
I felt that he was passionate about his subject but I didn't feel he expressed it enthusiasticly.
