I've been really excited about finally getting to go to Blythe House, my favourite lecturer Dr. Clare Rose is always talking to us about how the V&A archive at Blythe house is extraordinary. It wasn't exactly what I expected (& im not too sure what I expected either)- but it was really interesting.
Some notes I took during the visit,
  • Full of textiles original swatches & designs, many unseen, sold or even produced.
  • Forecast books from 1960's + interior designs
  • Learnt a bit about textiles designer Lucian Day- a career in textiles- Letter found saying she designed for Waitrose supermarket
  • Ambassador magazine 1948
  • 1950's supermodel of the time, Barbara Garland  - textiles mill photo-shoot originals in archive
  • Presage original colour books-ended in 1962?
  • Fabric Stuaten book from heels- 1907-1940- William Morris style prints
  • Fabrics made & sold in Manchester for Africa, Nigeria (image bellow)
  •  Gordon Hunter- birds/floral designs (Worked for Baker & Liberty)
  • Designs in the 1941- War- although dyes & fabric was rationed the colour was still rich and the designs were still up beat
  • Mr James Morton, an Edinburgh textile manufacturer
